An unexpected surprise as good friend and client, Frank (on the reel), booked a trip on the same week.  Was great to catch up in the evenings and hear about their catches.

The iconic Billfish jump!  Sailfish and Marlin will frequently jump clear out of the water with massive head shakes attempting to free the bait.  Few sights in fishing are more distinctive and memorable than this!

All billfish at Tropic Star Lodge are kept in the water and released to preserve the population and make this a resource future generations can enjoy.  Multiple hook-ups per day are common with most boats returning to the dock with a line full of flags.

Tropic Star Lodge is great place for those new to Billfish fishing to get a full dose of the excitement and challenge of a hard fighting fish.  Many guest get to experience the customary traditions of walking the plank after catching their first Billfish

The near-shore fishing is blast for a variety of species like Tuna, Mahi-Mahi (Dolphinfish), Roosterfish and Needlefish.  Several of these are brought back to the lodge to be prepared for dinner.

“Tropic Star Lodge is a world-renowned fishing resort located in Piñas Bay, Panama. The luxury lodge is carved into the hillside of the Darien Jungle and can only be reached by boat or charter plane.  The remote Pacific location provides amazing fishing and onshore jungle opportunities for guests. Anglers looking to catch billfish;  especially Black Marlin, Blue Marlin and Sailfish, are in for an amazing bucket list fishing experience. People from around the world visit Tropic Star to fulfill their fishing dreams and experience the Darien Rainforest.”
