The area is well known for Waterfowl (Snow-Goose Migration), Deer, Elk, Mt. Lion, Antelope & Upland Game Hunting. Hunt Unit is Southwest Desert and is part of the Utah Division of Wildlife Services program. Millard County is home to some of the best big game units in the state. The application period is late January to early March. Fishing for Bullhead & Channel Catfish, Walleye, White Bass, Yellow Perch, Carp, & Bluegill is close by at Gunnison Bend Reservoir. Hiking trails are available throughout the vicinity with many different mountains and interests satisfied. From fossil digging to rock collecting of Topaz, Obsidian, Opal, & Geodes.
LOCATION
Delta is the nearest city within a fifteen-minute drive. It was originally a railroad switch called Aiken, then Melville, then Burtner, and finally Delta on May 11, 1911. The area was a Delta for Lake Bonneville.
Topaz Relocation Camp was used during World War II. The Topaz Museum in Delta provides information and history about the camps, & to fund preservation.
Great Basin Museum provides history & information about the area.
Gunnison Massacre Site is where John Williams Gunnison was ambushed.
Climate is arid/semi-arid.
Sevier River is mostly used for irrigation
The area is well known for its Dairy Farms & Alfalfa Hay production
Lime production at Graymonts Cricket Mine is some of the best in the world.
Trilobite fossils are common in the region west of Delta
