Black Ridge Ranch
Property Description
When looking for a hunting ranch there are few ranches that you step foot on where you completely feel secluded from the world and are able to walk in almost any direction without seeing an orange vest. Black Ridge Ranch is just that, nearly 20 miles of gravel/dirt roads and behind 5 locked gates you arrive at the most secluded ranch I've ever stepped foot on. The long drive is so worth it as much of this heavily wooded ground is never touched by humans, the abundant game has some of the best ecosystems with the high country grass meadows and the thick quaking aspens throughout the landscape.
HUNTING
Located in unit 67 with the limited draw on both elk and deer the 320 acres allow you to draw some of the most phenomenal tags yearly through the landowner preference program. The ranch borders nearly 400,000 acres of BLM and Gunnison National Forest off the backside of the highly proclaimed Sawtooth Mountains. When you purchase this ranch you are not only buying the 320 acres but some of the best access around that is nearly untouched by other public land hunters. Wildlife flock to this high country from archery all the way to the third season then are pushed out by the yearly migration. Mule deer, you can expect to have an opportunity at 180"+ deer and is a haven for those 200"+ deer that enjoy the isolation as much as the landowner. Elk hunting is nothing short of some of the best I've ever seen, the thick aspen groves and ponderosa pines provide for a great bedding area that calls this ranch home, plenty of opportunity at 6x6 bulls yearly and if you can hold out giants come out of the Black Ridge located just behind the ranch. Several ponds throughout the ranch give you plenty of opportunities to set up blinds or tree stands.
LOCALE
Black Ridge Ranch is located outside of Gunnison Colorado by about 1 hour which has a Regional Airport and all the shopping you could ask for. Crested Butte is another 45 minutes from Gunnison where you can be hitting the slopes during the wintertime. Several modest 19th-century cabins located on the ranch give you a dry bed and nice shower as you enjoy the landscape. Black Ridge Ranch is a complete dream of mine and stepping foot on literally 100 ranches a year would be my pick of them all.
